All reviews I've read about the light seems pretty good so do I invest my £55 or so?

No. It's a really narrow tight spot beam and its not that bright. It would work as a helmet light, but with 4xAA cells its too heavy and bulky to mount.

Also there's no warning that the battery is low, it just cuts out. I've a few sets of batteries, all last slightly different times due to age / use / capacity, so I change them all every 1h30mins to be safe.

Except I don't, because I only use it for commuting now. A £12 torch I bought on dealextreme uses only 2 AA batteries, is brighter, and slowly dims rather thann just cutting out.

The Hope is both underpowered and awkward to use.

i'll second what dmjb4 said, very tempermental prone to just cutting out, only use as a commuter or stick it in my pack as a emergency light, got a dx magicshine for the same(ish) price and it puts the hope to shame.

What they said ^^^

No real use for proper off road riding but great for commuting and road riding...

I have one that i run as a bar mount with 2800 mah NIMH's.
It gives full power for a 45 min each direction commute.
I also run a blinker and a few 100 lumens on my helmet.
It's just extra. For a while i used to run it with a blinker on the bars and it was fairly effective.

Other lights are available, and are more versatile.

I have one for sale if you are still keen, chrispuppet. Email in profile, pics if you want. Used ~10 times, with box and all the mounts, £50 (w. special delivery)?

It is a wee bit too heavy for helmet mounting, but not too bad. I mainly used it as a helmet light.
