Rode my mtb for the first time since I built it up some time ago. All went well other than an issue with the freehub on my hope pro 2 rear hub. The freehub works whilst freewheeling with weight on the pedals however sticks when stopping/pushing the bike. The wheel has sat there for a while unused. Where should I start with it?
Take it apart and clean it? simple enough

How old are the bearings? Did you change them yourself between when it was last ridden and now?
I did wonder whether it was the bearing as it has not been changed since I have owned the wheel. Is it something I can do myself?

I'd rather service one with the right presses? Drifts? if that's the right word, rather than tapping sockets in etc.
They are not cheap though... My Lbs has a full set of hope ones so can rebuild a hub in about 20mins so I just get them to do it.
New cartridge bearings are cheap enough, it's getting the old ones out and the new ones in where it gets tricky.

Cleaning the freehub is easy as above, the way it spins should give you an idea how it is,
Definitely strip and clean, and replace the bearings if they're on the way out. I got a bit lax with mine (Pro2 Evo) and took it apart for the bearings in the freehub to fall out in lots of little bits... Apart from the outer races, which were well and truly stuck, and a pain to get out.
I’ve not done a pro 2 but due to an axle prob I have done my bulb several times now. Yes it’s nice to have the tools but it’s not necessary (plenty of vids on YouTube) first thing is to pull off the free hub (comes off by hand) being careful to catch the pawls and springs, for the sake of £10-15 replace these and while it’s apart feel how smooth the bearings are if smooth just re assemble. I would download the exploded diagram from the hope website and just check if there are any spacers needed (and check you have the right ones)
Having serviced my first Hope hub recently I'm ranking it No.1 in my most satisfying job chart.
Looking forward to doing the rest of my hubs once I get time.
