There’s not much difference between the colours in that pic (though I’m currently sat in pub beer garden in the sun!)

I did say it was a bad photo (Moto G9 Plus, auto mode).  I can see how in isolation (and at my pic) looking at the bronze you'd think it could be orange, but it is different to the orange.

Hopefully the anodising is as durable a colour as the orange and doesn't fade.  Like red.  Or green.  Or purple.  Or blue.

Green with zips*

I really wanted to keep my pink hope bits for the build I’m doing, but was too pricey to convert everything.

The point being daylight vs artificial light etc. can make big differences to how this colour looks

And then add in the variability in screens that the consumer is looking at. I'm using two screens as I'm reading this thread - all of the pictures look different from screen to screen. I reckon that this is as much a distance selling issue as it is a 'Hope coloured in the wrong hubs' problem.

I very much like dogs for the record, cats too. In fact, all animals really.
What about poisonous octopuses?

Octopuses and octopi are awesome. I'd love to have a pet poisonous octopus. I bet it would give me more affection than my cats.

Screen calibration isn’t really a factor as the difference will be clear between the two colours regardless.

As it goes, I have pro calibrated displays and the problem is very present

It's the venomous ones you need to look out for...

Is this one of those optical illusion things, like the white/blue/gold dress from a few years ago, or whatever it was?

FWIW, I'd be pretty bummed if I ordered a bronze component expecting it to be looking like the Hope marketing pics and it turned up looking like an orange/gold hybrid.

I did feel bummed initially, if I had known I would’ve gone for silver but didn’t want to cause the bike shop a headache. Won’t matter when covered in mud.

Don't be ridiculous, why would I risk being bitten by a venomous octopus? But, if I lose my love for this world and all its splendours, I can just munch a bit of Pandora, my poisonous prulilegged pet and leave for the Elysian Fields in a moment. 😀

Burgtec got it right with their Kash Bronze as others have noted.

At least this is a PSA to buy in first and check the colours before getting things built up!

Stem looks OK imho - like a bruised satsuma. But works with the black bars.

Hubs very orange, very bad.

I really like the new colour, much classier than the orange. Looks nothing like Hope’s promo shots though, in any light.

I've googled but can find nothing -you're not as famous as you think you are. And is it heartfelt love or sticky love? 😀

Chris King REALLY struggled to get consistent colouring with Matt Bourbon colouring.

At one point I had three hubs that were all different shades:

Holy moly they are orange hubs in the first pics - I’d 100% be sending them back - they look as orange as the normal orange hope hubs - there’s not even a hit of bronze regardless of the lighting

I was thinking of getting them in that colour but won’t be doing that now that’s for sure

if it’s bronze like all the press shots then they should be bronze - there should be little to no variation but man they just look orange

If only there was somewhere you could go to see things in person before you bought them or even buy them there and then. Someone should try that one day...

Sorry, someone was bound to say it and I'm sure someone's going to have a fit if they can't tick it off their forum **** bingo card.

FWIW they are absolutely not bronze, they look like my copper Aireal hubs. The good news is they're about 19 years old and not faded so there's that. I'd be contacting Hope though, that definitely looks like a production issue.

I ordered most of my stuff from a bike shop, the awesome 18Bikes, they discussed the colour with me and talked about the ano process.

Anyway, here’s something that turned up today (not from 18, sorry chaps!). Aforementioned key ring for colour Ref.

It’s so bizarre that they’ve made a new colour that can’t be distinguished from an existing colour unless it’s next to it.

In the photo above, I don’t actually know if I’m looking at an orange or bronze headset part (except that it’s written on the box)

Yep it just looks orange it’s not dark enough or dull enough to be bronze and looks absolutely nothing like the press shots

I just remembered I had an orange headset top cap in my parts bin, so just for fun, here it is next to my “bronze” hub 😂

And as a reminder, this is the advertised colour:

I can barely tell the difference when they are next to each other. Surely it has to be a mistake or production issue. Is there nobody from Hope lurking on here? It should be renamed oranze or brorange!

Pleased to see some images where both options are in the same shot, because automatic white balance is a thing.
I happened to be in a bike shop recently and they had a display cabinet.

I’ve been in touch with hope and they were very minimal in their response but are encouraging me to to send it back to the wheel builder and they’ll come up with a solution for him. I hope the solution includes credit, as he will have to rebuild the wheels.

I'd call that slightly burnt orange,  it's not bronze, mind you neither is Burgtec's, theirs is more brown than anything else, like Nukeproof 's so called copper horizon stuff.

I really like the Burgtec brown. Sorry - “Bronze”. Wouldn’t been irritated if I’d bought it to match Kashima forks but it looks great when new. All the colour has since scratched off my pedals, though.

Unfortunately that would penalise the wheel builder and not Hope, which would feel a bit unfair

I think this is partly on the wheel builder, especially as later you say he noticed that everything is different from his first batch.

Why didn't he just pick up the phone and check with you? Couldn't be bothered or thought you wouldn't notice?!

It wouldn't cost him any money to fix, just time, unless he can't send the hubs back now he's built them and potentially marked the spoke holes.

Personally I wouldn't feel too sorry for him, presumably he has also made some profit on the parts not just the labour charge.

I agree with this, spooky. If the wheel builder is buying parts direct from suppliers/manufacturers, you’d expect them to do the same basic quality checks you’d do if you’d bought the components yourself - damage, cosmetic issues etc.

I'm not sure it's reasonable for a wheel builder to decide if the shade of bronze from supplier A is a decent match to the bronze components from supplier B.

What a thread 🙂

From page 1:

People enjoying themselves…..

(this is meant to be light hearted banter btw)

Such an inane topic making it to a third page, with the OP still wringing their hands about escalating their gripe with every poor bugger involved in supplying them some wheels all suggests it's neither enjoyable nor 'just banter'...

Bikes are for riding, if you're this invested (financially and aesthetically) in a shade of metallic brown, and hence failing to enjoy riding, surely some deeper introspection would be a better use of your time.

To be clear, I’m OP and I’m not escalating to any poor bugger at all - see above comments, but actually I am standing by the wheel builder. He has small margins and I completely agree it’s not his remit to identify a colour variation that made it through Hope QC.

I intend to find an amicable way through this that doesn’t impact him and is fair and reasonable with Hope as well.

Re aesthetics, I absolutely love building bikes and making them beautiful and it’s part of the joy for me and completely equal to riding. I’m making no apology for this.

It was a light hearted thread until you turned up!
