The answer is almost certainly yes. I bought a secondhand frame the other day and the seller gave me a Hope BB he had as well.

I was expecting to be able to use my shimano cranks but for some weird reason the non-drive side is too narrow for my cranks.

What am I missing?

Yep, GXP spacer for SRAM cranks, tricky to remove, bit it's two aluminium halves pressed onto either side of the non drive side bearing.

Gotcha - any tips on how to remove? And once I’ve removed it, do i need to put something else in its place?

No top hats on a hope bb with shimano cranks. Bearings site direct on the crank spindle. So assuming the seals are good nothing else needed I think.

The bearing race is steel and the gxp adapter is aluminium, so could cut/file a slot and snap it out. Or tap a thin screwdriver in between the adapter and bearing to lever it out.

I found a tip on another thread to stick it in the freezer. That worked a treat. Freezer for a few hours, then came out easily with a pair of pliers 👍

If the spacer won't come out with some gentle persuasion (which is likely) then a second option is to whack the bearing out of the cup completely, then either replace the bearing with a normal one (cheap on ebay), or hold the spacer lip in a vice and tap it off the bearing that way.

Hope should have put notches in the spacers when they made them, and you can file your own notch prior to the original fitting to aid future removal if you know all this.
