Dont waste it on carbon. Good old alloy for longevity and less cracks.

That is the alloy ^^

If you go grey chances are it will be a slightly different grey to the frame and once you've noticed it ...

Black fork IMO.

Don't they do that lovely red colour as frame-only though?

I'm sure Hunt wheels will be fine now they've strengthened the rims, but might be worth pricing up EX511s on Hope/DT hubs. Personally I'd go XT rather than XTR and use the money saved there.

Just nit-picking though, your current plan looks great.

Congratulations! That's a cracking prize.

Personally I'd go black forks. Not a fan of the matching frame and fork thing. If ever you need to sell or replace them it'll be a potential sticky point.

Definitely agree with ^ re the wheels. I've got ex511s on dt swiss 350s. Great, rock solid wheels. Also not had an issue mounting tubeless tyres.

Thanks all, might have to change to something else though as the Nuke frames are out of stock until much later in the year 🙁

Time for a rethink lol

That's little disappointing for you. Is there a time limit on claiming?

Congrats OP - glad to hear someone's winning these type of competitions. A 16yr old in my kid's bike club won a £10k Intense Carbine with full Ohlins, etc a couple of years ago, so it does happen. Just not to me...

Anyway, playing the 'if it was me that won' game, instead of the out of stock Nukeproof I'd look at:

Geometron G1: https://geometronbikes.co.uk/bikes/g1/
or
Deviate Highlander (in stock in M or XL): https://www.deviatecycles.com/highlander150

(assuming you have free reign to buy anything and not tied to certain brands)

And like others mention, for wheels on a bike of this type I'd look at DT Swiss EX471s (or 511s) on Hope Pro4s or DT 350 hubs. Scale back from XTR to XT to accommodate the wheels if necessary.

The ohlins edition privateer 141 looks a pretty sweet bike for the money (and is currently still available I believe). I have a couple of mates on 161’s who love them. Congrats btw, a great problem to have!

Bummer, do you have to source it all via the bike shop (or whatever) organising the comp's dealer network? Or do you basically get a pot of money to spend wherever?

He sources them from his suppliers/direct so have to wait for stock.
Have given him another couple of options to look at.

Medium frames for me - I'm short lol

Thanks for the suggestions - not a fan of the Geometron, Privateer looks interesting.

If your really after a nuke proof..... Pass him the link to the frame (if your after the lrg), he may take a hit on the margin he makes and just buy it from them?

Have you spoken to the guys at One Planet at Llandegla. They might be able to source you a frame and build?

ohhh Wow, congrats, that's huge!!! I have always been tempted to enter these comps. Out of interest, how many tickets were you buying per month for the DBC Monthly comp?

I love seeing that people actually win these things, gives me some hope for all the ones I enter 👍🏻

What an amazing position to be in, can't wait to see what you go for, beyond proper custom builds with fancy paintwork and so on, that's pretty any bike you want isn't it?

Thanks, I used to enter every month, but hadn't done over the last few months - and usually only 2 tickets on the monthly.

So had a chat, and I'm going for a custom build on the Mega, stock levels will dictate some components!:

Mega 279 'mullet'
RS Zeb Ultimate
Hope brakes & rotors
Nukeproof cockpit - stem & carbon bars
OneUP dropper & remote
Hunt or Hope wheels (depends on stock)
Michelin rubber
SRAM Eagle drivetrain (wanted Shimano but availability is rubbish - but all drivetrains wear out anyway so easily replaced later on)

Congrats man!

I'm currently throwing money at a Commencal meta sx build in a similar colour to your nukeproof. I had same colour thoughts with forks myself. Mine will end up being black but with some custom decals from slik graphics.

Look forward to seeing how yours ends up.

Just the wait for it to all arrive and be built.

Sooo after a longish wait and a few problems along the way I have my Dream Bike prize.

The custom build option had to get shelved after a problem with obtaining the frame (long story that will stay between Foxy, his chosen supplier and myself...) and one not being available until later in the year.

I was offered a couple of alternatives, but none of these floated my boat.

I had originally specced a full 'off the shelf' bike but at that time none were available and not likely to drop until August.........

So after a search I found an in stock Nukeproof Mega Carbon Elite 290 at 2 Wheels Only in Tamworth.

After a quick call to Grant on Thursday the total prize fund landed in my bank account Friday - and today I went to 2WO and paid for and collected my bike.

Behold my very yellow very awesome Nukeproof Mega 290 Carbon Elite:

Fox Performance Elite bouncy bits:[img] [/img]

SLX 4 pots with i-spec shifter and 'bonus' Shimano XT i-spec dropper lever (listed as standard Brand-X on Nukeproof website):[img] [/img]
[img] [/img]

SLX 10-51 12 speed cassette & mech:[img] [/img]

Maxxis rubber & Nukeproof Horizon V2 wheels:[img] [/img]
[img] [/img]

Huge shout out to Grant from DBC and Nick & the lads at 2 Wheels Only for sorting this.

Well chuffed with my choice, looking forward to giving it some use over the coming months.

That looks pretty bloody perfect! And yes to bright strong colours! God knows what’s happened to bike colours in the last few years, so many have gone so dull.

Nice bike but will £8k "only" buy SLX these days??? Or is that just the result of supply chain issues and it cost (a lot?) less than £8k...

@markgraylish £4.4k for the Mega. Prize fund was £8k to spend as I saw fit - I also have a Sonder Camino coming when I have space in the garage (i.e. sold my current bikes), and a bit of cash in the bank.

@rOcKeTdOg will more likely be the GRX as the Mega was less than the custom build I wanted.

No rides yet as daughter has had dance competition all weekend.
Have just been fettling - invisiframe on cranks & forks, using the Fox tuning guide to get base settings and setting up tubeless.
Hoping to get out Tuesday or Wednesday evening.
