Was that in the Bronze Age?
I suspect my maintenance scheduling my be getting questioned here! ๐
So, sitting here sanding down aluminium, how far do I need to go with this before spraying with the etch?
Do i need to get rid of those speckley black bits in the aluminum, i'm assuming just paint. The other bits of paint at the side i'm just going to smooth out and the spray over those, they are solidly attached to the fork still, so it'd take an age to get them off, plus I don't really want to go near the stanchions tbh.
So do i need to completely get rid of the speckled bit? Given that all I care about here is getting rid of the corrosion(I'll not be using these forever), not particularly how it looks.
Great work! I'd bin them myself but I love your work there
They'll do for the short term while I figure out what I want to do about a new bike. Got a few things standing in the road of that purchase, but once sorted I'll be getting something new anyhow, whether building bit by bit, or full bike is still up for debate, but this will do as a stop gap. least cleaning it all up gave me peace of mind that they aren't cracked anyhow. ๐
Pretty much any Marzocchi fork from the 90s and noughties that had an unpainted crown went pitted like the pic just up the page - I don't think there was any issue of them breaking as a result.ย It'll be fine.
