There's a good number of club riders in that lot.

The CX race may be quite a spectacle, especially at the "Rooley's Chin" drop off.

Hmmmm, I was gonna ride my CX...

May still do, the pedestrian speeds I will manage, should make a dismount easy enough... 😳

Preview ride on January 2nd (subject to confirmation from my wife). Bring your CX and have a go.

I can get round on mine (and i'm rubbish), but there are a couple of "OHSHITOHSHITOHSHIT" moments on the lap. 3 of them to be precise.

hopefully the cast will be off my ankle around about the 7th of jan, so that gives me a bit of time to get fit enough to finish.......

See if i can do better than last year where i crossed the line just before i started my last lap. Foolishly i decided to do 'one last lap' for fun, had a total 'bonk' half way round and was the last man on the course, only arriving when everyone looked like they were packing up!!

Great event, looking forward to it.

Chris

Rooley's Chin is a short but technical section of the track named in honour of forum member Rooleymoor. At the last race he decided to use his chin as a brake.

Exit from "The Chin"

If you have a big crash we'll name a section of the track after you.

He was OK. Cracked his helmet though IIRC.

She's doing just fine there. Last time I went down it I was almost on my ass.

Mine was the photo on the front of the HTN site for quite a while. The fool on the cross bike holding up all the mountain bikers. Not sure about the pic at all...

Looking forward to the main event, may even make the preview ride if stocktake at work doesn't drag on too long.

I thought that bit was ace. IIRC staying high up on the right, (kind of not like no. 11 is doing) and then dropping off onto the track avoided somthing that needed avoiding. Can't remember what that was mind, possibly a busted chin.

The wooden post with the tape on it is in the middle of the track. 😀

is the course pretty much the same again this year?

from the top field after the start/finish gate to the bottom of 'rooley's chin' section was the most fun section by far. mucho slippy slidyness!

can we get a stannah stair lift installed? 7 times hiking my bike up the steps got a bit monotonous...

aiming for a podium spot in 2010 after last year's 4th place.

The DH from the field to Rooley's Chin remains, as does the long cobbled climb (now gravel thanks to the FC) and the steps 😀 but not the really steep ones in the woods.

The rest of it is either entirely new stuff, or last year's sections run in the opposite direction.

If you are running it turn left 5m from the top of the long climb and follow the trail that we used in HtN1 over the drop off (We'll call that "Preparation H" because it will drive your seat right up your arse!). At the bottom head to the arches, at the start of the climb to the motorway bridge turn right down 3 or 4 steps then follow the trail with the motorway on your left and the pond on your right.

In North Woods if you make it to last years dismount section you have gone too far. Look for a right turn by a path marker and follow it down to the bottom track via a hairpin. This will bring you out near the big squirrel. Follow it to the steps (the path, not the big squirrel) then climb back past the pylon into the big field.

The rest you can work out for yourself!

On behalf of Andrew (who is probably tucked up in bed... why aren't I?)
Send your details to me at vla.events@btopenworld.com and will take one of the entries off and try to get a full refund via the method you paid by. Failing that (which should be possible) will sort it out with Andrew
