A Wheel In Wheeldale from the Lost Lanes North guidebook starts in Grosmont, it's a cracking day out. Purple Haze is another great route.

Grosmont in N. Yorkshire or Herefordshire?

For biking N. York Moors in former, forest of Dean in Latter.
For non biking then Grosmont N. York's is mainly about the railway. Also has a nice Jazz cafe and allegedly the world's oldest Co-op (or similar).
Grosmont Herefordshire has a castle and canoeing on the River Wye.
For cycling in the N. York's one the Moor to Sea route goes above the village.

Everywhere is uphill from Grosmont. The track on the N. Side of the river to Egton Bridge is flattish but big climb out of there too! It is just about passable on a road bike if you go gently.
Someone also posted NYM routes on the best biking campsite thread earlier today.
For the Herefordshire one I've recently only ridden from the forestry centres with the kids or on the path along the river from Symonds Yat to Monmouth which is very pretty.

Edit: they are spelled the same bu the Yorkshire one is usually pronounced with a silent s (growmont) and the Herefordshire one usually a noticeable s but short o. Gros(rhyming with bros) mont.

If its Grosmont North Yorkshire then you're not too far from this place:

https://www.yorkshirecyclehub.uk/

Does great food, coffee and cake. Even if you're not cycling its worth a trip for the drive up the Esk Valley, the scenery and the cafe alone.

Or just leave the family in the cafe there and hit the onsite trails for an hour?

Cycle to Glasidale and visit the local butchers, they do a cracking pork pie.
If the weather is nice and you have time, ride up onto the moors and stop at the Lion at Blakey Ridge

Yes, I agree with this. Some nice bling in the bike shop too.

Cheers all.

It's Grosmont, North Yorkshire. Are there any crown descents or spots i shouldn't miss?

If you've not seen them before then the daffodils in Farndale are worth a look (although will be v. busy at weekends).

Also a good excuse to ride in Rosedale on the way there or back.
If you've got kids there are a few things on at the Moors Centre in Danby. Easter trails in the grounds and nest box building on Wednesdays according to the info sent home from school this week. Some good bridleways from there to ride to the bike hub in Fryup. Good cafes at both Moors Centre and Fryup bike hub.

Have a look on the pedalnorth.com website for the Coast to Coast route. The section that crosses the NYM from Osmotherley to Rosedale has some cracking singletrack rocky descents. Might need a vehicle shuttle though

It's a little bit out from Grosmont (5 miles via sleights and Ruswarp) but this is one of my favourite routes and I'll be doing it later this week hopefully.

But you can start and finish at https://www.beaconfarmicecream.co.uk/ you can have food before you set off and ice cream when you finish. Win win.

Route takes you up over the moors by the RAF base, down behind Dalby, loads of gravel roads and woods etc and finishes on the cinder track.

Its about 40 miles, 3500 ft climbing and took me  about 4 hours. Maybe 70/30 offroad/road. Riding from Grosmont will make it around 50 miles and a big day out.

DM me if it's of interest to you and I'll share my strava with you. It's also got some photos attached which gives you an idea what it's like.

Forgot about Beacon Farm. The campsite with an en suite ice cream parlour. Has some wee trails in the grounds now too so you can do coffee followed by a wander to work up an appetite followed by ice cream.
Probably the best of the ice cream round here too although Trillos Whitby Gothic flavour is good too.
