Thomson post on my Hummer is starting to develop wanderlust.Bought a new Hope bolted seatclamp and it's still doing it.Tried removing all the grease and inserting it "dry" (ooh err missus!) still doing it and it's bloody annoying! So thinking of flogging the bolted clamp and trying a QR .More leverage?Dunno.

Yep, Pace compound is well worth trying. Had a similar problem on Pace 303/Thomson post, and that cured it.

If the post is loose in the tube you could try making a shim out of a bit of beer can. As for Quick release I dont think you will get any more clamping force than a bolt up clamp the usual answer to slipping posts is to bin the QR and fit a bolt up.

I had problems with a Thomson slipping on my Inbred (I'm not convinced that the ribbed surface finish helps) and solved it with a Salsa clamp and some Tacx carbon paste (it's supposed to increase grip so that you can use lower torques for carbon posts but works well with aluminium too).

I bought a tube of the Finish Line carbon paste from a small local bike shop yesterday. It fixed my FSA carbon seatpost slippage problem. I would have thought most bike shops would stock it. £8 I think.

Tacx Carbon compound, or the Pace stuff is what you need. I've had similar problems with posts on both my Inbreds and my Remedy 66, and Tacx worked really well. My LBS, John's Bikes in Bath use it a lot.

Try the carbon prep paste first but I would loose the Thomson as they are all at the lower end of the tolerence for their size. I have seen this several years ago (first in a bike shop and then working for the then Thomson importer) and it has not changed.

A Surly constrictor seat clamp (complete with M8 bolt) might do the trick but a slightly fatter post (same marked size, just near the upper end of the tolerence) Cane Creek, WTB and Titec have all been good in the past.

SSP so Thomson COULD be the problem ? So a cheap post might be better ?
