Trying to set up an xt shadow medium cage rear mech on my 2009 meta 5. The mech is correctly fitted, outer cable length is as specified in shimano tech document and the mech hanger is brand new. Try as I might I can only get the b tension clearance of 6mm between the 32 tooth sprocket and the upper jockey wheel by winding the screw virtually right off! Is this normal on a meta or have I fu***d something obvious up? Set up the long cage shadow on my hardtail with no probs :(.

I think you need to run a long cage mech on a meta 5. Unless your using a double ring combo up front. Otherwise the chain will be to long when on the the smallest chainring. Dont think the cage length should affect the b tension though.

Running a double and bash set up at front Marty. B adjustment is intially done chainless isn't it?

When you bolt the shadow mech onto the frame, its possible to bolt it on at various angles. You've got to get the tab on the mech to sit against the groove on the hanger. If you've done that, I'm out of ideas.

Having said that, I ran a Shadow XT mech on a Meta 5.5 (2009) for years. No issues.
