Help!

I’ve never owned a tarmac bike in my life and I just threw some money away on ebay. Or at least I think I have!!

I wildly took a punt on this bike:

Its described as a Genesis (Ridgeback I think) Arizona RSX. I am hoping the RSX is the groupset. Question is, can anyone identify it, tell me the spec and age? I don’t even know if its 700c or 26” or other!

I thought for £67 it cant go too far wrong but I might be about to be told otherwise! PS its just for some summer training and turbo training to help out with my off road antics – unless I really fall in love with the tarmac and end up selling my DH rig for a carbon road bike!

I could be wrong, but it looks like a nasty ol' cheap mtb with road forks (check clearance between fork crown and tyre) and narrow tyres.

mmmmm, you could be right looking at it now but it seems funny that the guy sold it as having a full rsx group (road /touring group?). I am waiting for pics of the mechs etc before i travel down and pay for it as the guy was really vague and didn't know lot about it.

Tourers I've seen don't tend to have super fat tubes like that.
Really is hard to tell from such a lo-res pic.

Is it me or is there no rear brake?

As said above, looks like a horrible cheap POS.

I'd not pay and take the neutral feedback.

I had a look on ebay and that looks nothing like a genesis or a ridgeback on sale - have you got the ebay link? I think also it looks like a real cheap frame - cheep steel? I'D walk - I think that frame is not what is advertised?

its awful but i guess for a turbo trainer its ok. £67 isn't the end of the world either. looks like a flat bar hybrid similar (kind of) to a spec sirrus

FFS it's £67, what do you expect? Doesn't look particularly sub par for the money.

As long as it's not bent or anything...

Ive not paid. i told the guy i wont be coming for it unless i get some more pics of the mechs and brakes as i dont know the spec. He's ok with that as he knows nothing about it - its his mates who has moved out. I've spoken to both the guys and they seem genuine but thick when it comes to bikes. I noticed the back brake but he is adamant it has one - i think it may even be a nexus or similar roller brake if you look at the rear hub. I don't like the frame either but as a training bike it would do? The other option is to say I'm not happy with the listing description and welch on the deal. There are a few Ridgeback Day's and Dawes Giros floating about that i have an eye on, maybe again you would rather walk that ride these as well but after having lashed £3k on my SC Bullit and £2.5k on my V10 i only want something cheap to help me learn to pedal in a "non overweight way" again!

The seatpack looks ok.
And the mudguard.

Rest of it looks like a bit of a lash-up though.

I guess if you just want it for commuting then it would be ok for £67 😉 Thought from your post you wanted it for MTB 😉

Nope, just for road training for an hour at a time on a night and turbo training when i cant be bothered to lug the Bullit in the car and hit Garburn.

HAHA!

no realy!

you can pick up 70/80's road bikes with 12/14speed groupsets for £20!
i've got two! one for comuting and one part way to becoming a fixie!
I had a 3rd free for parts!

You've bought a lemon, a very manky one at that.

Either find a reason not to pay, or very quickly realise you could have bought a £60 supermarket "bike" and been better off.

A touring groupset is a roadie groupset with a tripple, or a mtb groupset with a 48t ring, depending on how long your beard is.

Quite amusing that bit, i couldnt work that one out at all!!

I'm not sure which is worse - a £67 lemon or a 70's/80's road bike. I never was a fan of the Raleigh Banana. 😮

Walk away. Quickly.

It's not even worth the £67 and he's having a right laugh with that description (on a side note - WTF is going on with peoples language abilities these days? That ad is shocking!).

That chainset looks like a 1 piece crank with the non-replaceable rings and if there's a rear brake I've got no idea where (I'd be bloomin' amazed to see a roller brake on something like this). There's no brake cable going to the back of the bike either.

Quite aside from anything else - Liamluvfiona as a user name? I reckon you'll be wandering into an episode of 'Shameless' if you go to buy this bike.

The feedback history is quite a chuckle as well.

Eastern Promises? Pretty good David Croneberg gangster flick actually, a rare moment of taste it appears.

Just a quick update. I didnt go for the Genesis. I texted the guy as i thought that was more personable than a message on ebay explaining why. I was met with a torrent of abuse that made me glad i didnt go for it and that i lived 250 miles away!

Anyway, i picked this up from a friend of a guy at work who had just upgraded to a Cannondale Badboy:

Its a Carerra (i know i know!!) Subway 8 with an Inter 8 Nexus hub gear and nexus hub brakes. Its only 18 months old, its mint apart from a hub issue. It wouldnt drive in gears 1-4. So, i only paid £80 for it and after a bit of digging i fixed the hub problem with a c clip and a cable adjust!

Sorted!

Those Subways are good bikes, you got it at a good price as well. Keep on top of the little things that might pop up and you've got a bargain workhorse.

Very, very pleased to hear you didn't go for that other thing.
