A pal of mine ( yes I do have some) is looking for a new commuter on the cycle to work scheme. Being a pal of mine he obviously has some peculiar requirements:
large / Extra large frame - he is 6'6"
Alfine 8 rear hub
Flat bars
Disc brakes
Short travel front fork that is adjustable
Full mudguards

Sounds like a standard eurotourer but we can't find anyone selling a suitable bike that does cycle to work scheme. alternative would be a 29r MTB for say £700ish ( but must have hub gears) and then hybridise it.

so any clues? either a complete bike or something that would make a suitable base to modify

I would have thought that requiring both of these together would both greatly limit your choice, and also likely result in worse performance and value for money at that price point compared with a rigid forked bike with wider tyres instead of suspension.

I tend to agree. full mudguards can be bodged onto any bike tho and eurotourers come set up with full mudguards and short travel forks

I do think he is daft for insisting on the suspension

anyone know of any MTBs using the alfine that he could convert?
