Help, help - Internet fail. I want some road cycling ideas around Scarborough. All the internet can come up with us is the cinder track to Whitby. I want to shout "no, I'm taking a ROAD bike. Not a gravel bike..." but if you shout at a website nothing happens.
So, where is good to road ride near scarborough? About 50 miles ish?
Or maybe I should give up and a different bike. That's what the Internet wants...
Have a look on Google maps, and head for the big green area to the West, I think it's called the North York Moors or something. Lots of ups and downs, but mostly quiet off the main tourist access routes.
I can't help you with a specific route but my suggestion would be to google sportives in the area.
You can copy the routes if they are available directly or if you know the name you will be able to find them on strava.
Other option is to find a bit of road you think looks interesting (significant hill, nice town etc.) and then look on strava at a segment to see where people who rode that bit went.
Head west into the Yorkshire Moors for beautiful road riding. Most of the ‘gradual’ road climbs run north/south. Lots of the east/west is very steep (e.g. Rosedale Chimney). There are plenty of tea rooms. There is also a recently set up equivalent to the Dales Bike Centre which might be able to advise on routes...they are up near Goathland somewhere. You can also ride from Scarbs through Scaby and into the back of the forest drive though Dalby which is good going.
The Goldeneye NYM cycle map is the most useful guide I have found.
