Currently using a hex which is pretty good but i get stupidly hot in it, what other helmets are out there with loads of vents (under £60?)
I sweat loads with or without a helmet.
Shaving your head helps. A god trick is to put a coat of vaseline along your brow, its stops sweat getting in your eyes, but not on your glasses.
I am wearing a Giro Havoc cost me £45 iirc feels quite draughty.
Have you tried wearing a Buff or similar to soak up the sweat. Its what I do its hot at first but when the Buff gets damp the airflow seems to cool my head down. Something to do with evaporation or suchlike.
If you have a Giro shaped head, then an E2 will be cooler than a Hex.
Giro Animas seems to be pretty much the old E2 but cheaper, definitely cooler than a lot of other helmets and you may get one for £60 if you shop around.
I also tried the shaved head trick, definitely cooler but ended up wearing either a bandana or cotton headband as with no hair the sweat just pours down your face and glasses.
I had a E2 and now I have a Animas.
E2 is noticeably cooler and You can feel the air flowing even when going slow. I was very happy with mine. Not too heavy, but outstanding ventilation. Not that I tried loads of different helmets, but I never had one as well ventilated as the Giro E2.
Animas isn't bad, just not as good as E2, fits me fine, and is a good option if You don't want to spend that much.
Only went for the Animas as a replacement as couldn't afford a brand new E2 at the time. Does everything well enough so not thinking about replacing it anytime soon. 🙂
Every head is different, so would be good to try it on first. I do like the fit as it's a bit wider and fits my big head very well, plus can wear a hat/bandana when it's colder without a problem.
