Hi

I have killed my frame but the headset is pretty newish and would be worth a punt on ebay

Whats the best way to remove it then?

Im guessing a rubber mallet and blunt screwdriver in a cloth

Or is there a better way?

And when you put one on the classifieds do buyers expect a crown race or not?
I have posted on the old celery headset thread but would be happy for some help

🙂

You can get a special tool for removing headsets, it looks like a metal shuttle cock. You'll need to hit it with a metal headed hammer to get it to ring, as I found without the vibrations, my headset wasn't going anywhere.

If I were buying 2nd hand, I'd expect the matching crown race. How else would the fork press against the headset barings?

That's called a Rocket tool. Guess why?

hammer and screwdriver has always worked for me

crc (other online retailers are available) sell spare crown races for some headsets

Celery definitely won't do it, though.

You might be able to buy a spare but you would have to knock the price of the replacement off the second hand price so probably hardly worth doing? The race will be useless to you so include it in the sale, more gentle persuading with a hammer/screwdriver...
