Bloody hell!

Genuinely scary..... Wouldn't have even known what hit you.

Amazing the injuries weren't worse but glad they weren't.

Statistically MX5's have been the worst I've met on the road.

Typically your MX5 drivers fall into 2 categories, the older retired folk who like to bimble around in an open top sports car at weekends, and the JDM Krew who put a fart cannon on their car, stretch the tyres, and lower it for "Hella stance Yo!".ย  ย The latter are far more likely to kill themselves, so it's the former you need to watch out for...

Arsehole didn't even bother to stop.ย  Two year ban is pathetic.ย  I hope he at least needs to retake his test after the ban.

Holy shit - "A more serious charge of causing serious injury by dangerous driving was dropped against the pensioner."

See, my old man (deceased) was a terrible, dangerous driver in his 70s. It was scary to be in a car with him. And my mum (78) has asked to do a pensioners driving refresher course. It's damn scary that people like that 81 year old can be allowed to drive. He didn't stop because he had no ****ing idea that he'd done it.

still once he's 83, he'll be back out there and all will be fine. Gulp..

Presumably as part of the ban he will have to take the extended driving test afterwards? Which at 83 and having had to alter his lifestyle once already to get by without a car might be more effort than its worth even if he did feel as if he was safe to drive around again?

You would've thought so, TINAS. Makes you wonder why they didn't just take his license away. Baffling.

I suppose they have to give the sentence in line with the guidelines regardless of other external factors, so the sentence has to be the same whether he's 23 or 83.

I suppose dangerous driving, guilty plea, no previous offences probably comes out fairly low down the scale. Although reading the guidelines I'm surprised he didn't get a stiffer sentence including community service/custodial.ย  The non custodial bit talks about "ย little or no damage or risk of personal injury ", clearly he'd passed that threshold!ย  Although I guess as the CPS didn't go for "causing injury by dangerous driving" maybe the injuries couldn't be taken into account? IANAL

It does say an extended re-test is mandatory, so at 83 and a shit driver before a to year ban, I doub't he's going to get his licence back.

Holy shit โ€“ โ€œA more serious charge of causing serious injury by dangerous driving was dropped against the pensioner.โ€

Having read a bit more about this - the serious injury part would have to be akin to GBH. I presume they went for the lesser charge as it was more likely to get a prosecution.

Given he'll have to take an extended driving test after 2 years, hopefully he'll not get to drive again. But the ยฃ20 victim surcharge takes the piss somewhat.
