Help! Opinions sought on recently purchased dodgy wheel set

This has been ongoing for a few months, I purchased in April a set of Mavic 26" Crossrides from a french shop called Acycles (www.acycles.co.uk) .

When I took them out of the box and spun them I noticed that they were out of true. On close inspection the out of true area was located at the join in the rim.

After taking pictures I was surprised to notice that the rims aren't joined edge to edge. If you zoom in a bit you can see the white of the paper behind the rims, through the gap in the rims and the pins that hold the rim together! In fact I can insert a piece of paper all the way through the join/gap.

Acycles claim that Mavic claim that this is "fine".

Hmmmm. There is no way that I would have purchased these if I had seen them in a shop. In my mind they are not "fine" and are potentially dangerous/lethal.

So...... am I correct or am I barking up the wrong tree?

FrontWheel

RearWheel

PS how on earth do I post embedded pictures?

Do the wheels have serial numbers on the rims? Should start cf for front and cr for rear. If they do contact mavic customer services UK and they should be able to use them to verify the wheels are legit.

They are probably fine, the gaps will close once the tyres are inflated.

They're pinned rims aren't they? Admittedly the join is usually less visible but it's hard to say they're definitely faulty

Yes,a little disconcerting to see but my Crossrides were similar and held up great.

If they are indeed Mavic factory built wheels, I really wouldn’t be surprised that you are questioning their safety/QC.

truly shocking 💩 completes.

I have never had a good experience with a Mavic product.
