Anyone got any suggestions for a hardtail frame around the £600 mark? Must take around a 150-160mm fork and 27.5 wheels.

Currently the shortlist is 2021 Cotic BFe, Bird Zero AM Boost, Pipedream Moxie.

Any opinions on those greatfully received.

Have you considered a Ragley Mmmbop? You'd get a frame and plenty of change from £600 for a nice fork.

I love mine, brilliant fun for woodland thrashing, pretty slack, fairly light and not terrible for longer days in the saddle too.

Can only give an opinion on the 29er version, but the BFe is a really, really nice bike, and I'd thoroughly recommend it. Lovely feel, corners well, excellent climber.

Seening the MmmBop mentioned above, I bought a frame for my youngster, was very impressed with the finish and quality of it given the price (Not ridden it properly, several sizes to small for me)

Stanton occasionally run special offers, if you’re quick. Had some Slacklines and Switchbacks for approx £550 I think..?

Watch the bb height on the Moxie - probably ok on 650b+ (2.8”) but other wise the best drop is about 20mm lower than most 650b frames. Looks lovely though.

Ribble ht725 probably worth a look - and if it doesn’t have to be steel then the Sonder Transmitter.

Stanton as above - think the switchback is the one you’d want.

You might struggle to get hold of lots of the frames at the moment though.

The Bird is the closest geometry to what I was after - but wanted a steel frame so gone custom Marino (if it ever shows up). The Ribble is a good frame spec for the money too and I like the look of them.

Really like the look of the Mmmbop and Blue Pig actually. I prefer the braced top tube for a bit of extra standover.

Definitely won’t Be running 650b+ so sounds like the Moxie may be out, I did worry how it would be with regular 650b.

Doesn’t have to be steel, loved my Chameleon which was ally and as stiff as anything.

I've had a Moxie only a couple of months but loving it so far. BB very low with 27.5 as will be obvious from comparing the geo numbers. I have 165mm cranks, am ok with it and will probably keep as is, but I suspect some others would take issue with the pedal strikes.

I'm running 27.5x2.6 because I had the tyres already, so not really "plus", but on 35mm rims which adds a bit.

What size are you after? I’m probably going to sell my 2020 Pace RC627 frame in medium and purple. Might even sell my Yari boost forks with RC2 damper too!

The Pace may be another to consider if you're fixed on steel.

Every post I write is beaten by moments!

I liked the look of the Pace too. I chose the Moxie over it in large part because Pace doesn't do anything shorter than the medium, which is a bit long for me.

I really liked the spec / look of the ice, but the shortest one has a reach big 467mm which is too long for me at 5’9 and with short arms / longer legs. My fs is only 457mm reach - I found a previous fs a touch too long at 481mm even with a 32mm stem.

I have a 2018 Bfe, so not the latest version which I run with 140 forks around Calderdale, which has a mixed bag of riding terrain, it handles everything and never feel out of my depth on it, my skills probably hold it back 😉
I haven't done any epics on it, apart from canal bank cruising to meet up for rides rather than driving and it feels comfortable enough.
I built it as a second bike and seem to ride it more than my Foxy at the moment!

Have a look an Cotic's website for the video of a Bfe being "sent" down A Line and Crabapple Hits in Whistler, that should make you want to buy one 😉

EDIT Here it is

£320 at the moment (direct from them) DMR Trailstar
Very happy with steel frame and feel for the price.

Comes with 142mm dropouts though.
27.7+ or small 29 compatible though I'm running 27.5x2.5 and 160mm up front

I bought a P7 during the first lockdown.
Blown away with just how good it is. The full suss doesn't get used now and I can't see me using it for the foreseeable.

I love my Dartmoor Primal. Currently running 150mm forks and it is mint. The rear triangle is brutally stiff, though...

Ive got a PP Shan. Its great. A little shorter than current trends, but running 160mm pikes i have a lot of fun.
In fact, this year it went to Morzine instead of my DH full sus.

I’ve currently got a Pace RC627, would recommend it if you’re after something with modern geometry. Nice and long and has a nice feel to it. I’ve had a PP Shan in the past, which I loved but they do come up a bit short these days
