Thinking of getting an alfine hub ,would anyone recommend using an half link chain for strength /and getting the perfect chain length

Dont use a half link chain, thats not what you want.
Get a SRAM or KMC 7/8 speed chain and buy a single half link off Alans BMX and run that. The perfect solution.
