[#903547]

Managed to land badly off a jump with the saddle in the up position: result one grazed knee, one large black bruise on the inside of my thigh and one snapped inner post on my gravity dropper, next time do not listen to the kids egging you on 😥

I have seen on snapped. Apparently the guy is very heavy around 95-100kg. GC told the LBS that they should be mounted with the hole on the back.

Mick - you're right, hear you were living the dream this morning, and to quote 'blah, blah, blah and Mick looked really bored' 😀

How come you were jumping with the seat up?

Grumm, schoolboy error of not dropping the saddle in the split second I had when I spotted the jump/drop on an unknown bit of country park car park we were riding round at the time 😉

Isn't that kind of the entire point of having a gravity dropper?

🙂

I take it your bad shoulder escaped further injury?

I'm still holding off on the whole gravity dropper thing until they become more reliable and far cheaper. Can't bring myself to spend the £200 or so to get one. Will you be replacing yours or going back to a standard post?

I assume the rest of the bike faired ok?

The inner post is only a $30 part

How come you were jumping with the seat up?

More like why did you land a jump sitting down?!?

Can't bring myself to spend the £200

Why because a simple tube of black alloy is only 90£

That brand new Thomson lay back he's just bought has an inner profile!

Inner post has been ordered, shoulder and rest of bike ok

Landing badly meant my feet slipped off pedals and my svelte physique landed right on the rear of the saddle, snapping the inner post, I didn't intend to sit down on landing 😥

grumm - I agree but lifting my fat 4rse to unweight the saddle, depress lever, reapply weight to drop saddle, release lever then stand up doesn't happen as quickly as I'd like 😀

Steve - can't really blame the post reliability on my incompetence and to be fair, even on your gate size frames and radio mast length seatposts you don't really need an extra 3" or 4" of clearance 😉

So that I understand: do you believe that you would have broken a standard seat-post in this incident?

BigDummy - who knows???? never landed like that on a normal post so have nothing to compare to, so as the saying goes: man without data is only expressing an opinion

Just a quick update, e-mailled GD in the states about the issue and asking about purchasing replacement parts, got home and their reply is:

Mark,

I apologize for any inconvenience this has caused. We would like to correct this issues and also inspect the seatpost at no charge to you. Is it possible for you to return your seatpost so that we can perform the necessary repairs. If so please ship to us with your name, address, phone number and email address and we will take care of this issue promptly for you.

Let me know if you have any other questions. We look forward to your business!!

At your service!

Josh Richards

Sounds like excellent customer service to me, even if I do end up paying for the replacement bits, having them inspect and repair sounds good, post will be in the post tomorrow.

Only heard good things about Gravity Dropper customer service.

All issues I've heard of with the posts have all been dealt with FOC (apart from postage costs back to the US)

Wouldn't be without mine. Had it about 6 months and like many have said before, its one of the best 'upgrades' you can make.

they are releasing a 30.9 version soon

This sounds good. What are these things? I've only seen the Crank Brothers ones. I've got a new Orange Five in the pipeline, and I NEED to sit to go uphill on it (alien to me as I'm usually SS) so I'd like an uppy-downy widget.

Anyone got a link to a shop or whatever?

ta, al.

Old style, remote activated, 3" drop only.

3 years old now. I've had it apart to lube it twice (just because). Done a cable change both times (standard gear cable). It has a couple of mm of play in it - rocks from side to side a little, not detectable while riding - but otherwise just works. Might not look pretty but sometimes function really is more important.

Actually I'm always saying (well, often) that having no cover on your delicate parts is just asking for grit to get under the sleeve - oo-er! So, I rather approve of concertina condom things.

Can TBC (LBC) get them? Or is it an interweb gig?

al.

We don't sell them. I went direct, although I believe that certain other large UK online retailers are now offering them too....

Crank Bros Joplin 4 - with - four inches of travel and way better sealing and double the brass keys to keep it running true.

Looks promising to me.
