First winter is approaching with my Salsa Warbird. I need to sort out a proper front mudguard solution. Historically I've always used Gravelhuggers very successfully, but with 650b wheels.
Technically the Warbird has 45mm tyre clearance and that is indeed OK with the Gravelhugger. However as my local (Peaks) riding is at the chunkier end of the spectrum, I MUCH prefer the ride with a 50mm Rambler in the front. That gives me an even 6mm of clearance all round between tyre and fork and the GH is just the wrong shape to fit.
I've been running a Muckynutz type flap all 'summer', but want some proper coverage for winter. It tends to be wet/grit rather than sticky clag, and I'm more concerned about keeping it out of face/eyes than lower body.
Ideas..?

Are you getting close to MTB guards there? Mudhuggers or something seatpost mounted
Sorry - we're talking front. Back is easy.
A crud catcher will protect you quite well.
Easy to take on and off quickly as well.
Might SKS speedrockers work. They go either side of the head tube rather than under it so you can probably lift them a bit higher.
