I'm thinking about doing some more adventurous routes on my own. I've never had any digital GPS or HUD ect... whats the recommendation for the most minimalist one that wont shatter instantly when crashing?
I dont mind using a phone purely for the job if its accurate and has a good battery but would probably prefer something like the garmin edge 25.. .however the snag is I want to follow Strava routes!
you can make strava routes into gpx, so that shouldn't be a barrier.
Apprently "My biggest bug bear is that you can't put standard GPX files onto it - all routes have to be manually created on garmin connect, the worst bit of software in the world." thats not the case 🙁
Edge 1000 has a decent size screen and you can download free open source bike maps for most areas. Screen isnt crash proof though...
Also works with Strava live and starred segments.
Or buy a cheap phone and tape it to your bars!
Be wary of the edge 25... I've got one and the battery isn't very good, a big day out on the bike will finish it off. You can only upload a route using Garmin connect so it's a bit of a pain. The gps accuracy isn't great either and the lack of a 1 second recording mode means that it's not great for tracking twisty MTB trails. It just puts a straight line through everything. The 25 would be fine for a road bike tho.
The lezyne super GPS or micro GPS is probably better for what you want, you can modify the route on the go using your phone and it has 1 second recording. It's cheaper too!
