My Dad wants a computer for navigating routes and recording rides, but his eyesight is not as good as it was (usual old age stuff, nothing dangerous). He needs something with a big, clear screen that will be easy to navigate. If it’s reasonably easy to use as well that’d be an advantage.
Any suggestions?
Wahoo have very clear maps, and the data screens can be zoomed to show very large text. Plus the screen has great contrast even on the brightest days. It’s also easier to see your planned route on the map than it is on others.
The Roam looks to have better visibility in sun than the previous models, which were already way ahead of Garmin on that front (I’ve used the Elemnt and the Bolt but I’ve only seen the Roam in online videos, but one of them does show it in sun next to one of the older ones and it’s a noticeable improvement.)
So if the priority is coping with poor vision, I’d say look at the Roam as a first resort.
I find a good out-front mount helps a lot as well
Garmin eTrex. Designed for walkers but has a big clear display, proper turn by turn signals and records a gpx track of where you've been. Handlebar or stem mount.
