Me and a few mates have booked camping at the Nidderdale Bikefest : www.nidderdalebikefest.co.uk . It's in Birstwith which is very close to the route and its good value.

Hopefully volunteering to marshal the event either on stage 1 or 2 (based in York).
Probably be a very early start to get anywhere though.

If anyone is interested in staying in the Ripponden area, we have a community website which probably has a few accommodation links on it.

http://www.letourripponden.co.uk/

Alternatively, if some wants to pitch up in my garden, we can discuss a modest fee!

As a Swaledale resident I can honestly say I'm hoping to be away! I think most of the locals are genuinely dreading the total gridlock and closed dale it will bring for the day!
Not being grumpy or trolling but it's already hard going trying to get up and down dale to farm at weekend due to huge groups of roadies and it's only gonna get worse for us....

^^ just plan to stay at home and go no where that weekend unless by foot.

If you try to work against it you will fail

On foot is the only way; looking after bikes or trying to park the car nearby will spoil the day IMHO.

This is getting boring now. If you want to advertise, contact the owners of the website and ask for a price for a nice sidebar ad or banner.

Apologies Hebdencyclist. We've had a good uptake using this code during the last week and didn't want others to miss out before the deal ends. I won't be posting offers on here again.

POSTED 55 MINUTES AGO # REPORT-POST

I don't know your circumstances, but the amount of extra revenue it will bring in to your area this summer must be a good thing for local businesses etc- also if you have a farm- take the opportunity to use your land for parking, camping etc- I am sure the NYCC are amenable to temporary planning applications

A weekend of long MTB rides, a couple of longish bike carries and a couple of bivvi nights with suitable refreshments will see us right, the added bonus being come day 2's viewing on the 3rd day of riding, we'll stink and get loads of room on the roadside.

On a similar subject, I booked ferries to ireland for the giro earlier. 2 grand tours in one year. Bring it on! 😀

As a Swaledale resident I think you not correct but have point, mostly people have no real concept of how big it will be. There is now doubt about the genuine concern of many that is will cause a fair bit of disruption. But is that not also linked to the state of the road from Richmond and the late start to the repairs (Reeth Show road queues). A lot of the traders really keen to do something and working together, there's camping all over the place, all the B&B,s are booked (for some time), The Dales Bike Centre are doing stuff that's going to be big.

The valley needs a year when the local business do well to help with jobs and maybe some of them will invest a bit. We live in a wonderful Dale lets hope we show up well.

As someone who has seen the TdF in France I'd say it's just as disruptive there they seem to handle it better. Suppose it is their national institution and bless em them have made REETH the most north village visited, I'm very proud.
