I know it depends on terrain, fitness, strength etc but(!), I used a 16T on my 26era while back, and from memory, it was OK. I tend to be a spinner and it's getting muddy, so ...

Moving onto a 29er, will 16T be relatively tougher than on a 26?

And does a couple of teeth make a real world difference?

Thanks

2t up on a 29er SS so 32:18 instead of 32:16 as a rough rule of thumb.

1 on the back is worth 3(ish) up front.

35-20 is a nice ratio for everything

I run 34/ 18 if that means anything. If you want the science bit go to the tech part of the G-sport web site. Alot of torque on those little teeth.

Assuming you've got a 32 up front, 18 is a good place to start. 32-20 is pretty low for normal trail riding down south.

32-19 for most North Yorkshire riding for me, Worth buying a couple of cogs and trying them out,
