I love my ohlins tx22 coil but I had a hankering to try air again. I didn't like the fox x2 my firebird came with so have got tx22 air .it's just been fitted so can't wait to try it out. Wonder if I go back to coil
Should be good, did think of the ttx air, but 800 quid is a lot, fox have worked on their shocks recently, but the x2 is a Goldilocks type of shock.
I swap back and forth between a fox DPS and cane creek dB coil.
They are both good in different ways. It's a lovely luxury having both!
I'm not set on air ,I just wanted to try it after a year of coil.
I'm thinking of doing the same soon, now I've had a year or so on coil, just out of interest. I sometimes think my bike feels too plush so maybe going back to air will inject a bit of pop back into the ride.
While out on Sunday though, I did have to wonder if doing so at the start of winter is a wise thing. I was rattling down one of my fave trails littered with many, many off camber wet sniper roots. The Push plushness, and Cushcore in the tyre, feels a bit like cheating...
It's a ten minute swap though, so not like it's a big deal to go back and forth.
I just picked up an Ohlins TTX22, but was tempted by the TTX22 Air, I had no issues with the STX22 air and found it a good shock when ran before. Be interested to hear your thoughts once youve ridden with it
Like all these things, I think it depends on the bike a whole heap too.
My current bikes are both better with air shocks than coil (EXT Storia).
but the x2 is a Goldilocks type of shock.
I think it's tricky to set up. A shockwiz really helped (I was struggling with the balance of LSR to HSR)
I just changed to a TTX22 from a DPX2 given a low price on the upgrade.
The main difference I’ve noticed so far is a much smoother “re-entry” when landing a jump. It’s not night and day for an everyday ride (but neither is the weight gain noticeable).
I’d be interested in your change to a TTX air. Seems like the best of both worlds.
Would be interested to hear your thoughts, currently have an EXT Storia coil, which is lovely. but often contemplated getting an air can to see if theres much difference.
Saw your pic on FB jedi, looks lovely.
feels different to my coil and I'll test it on my night ride tonight.
Interestingly my Evil Wrecker came with a Super Deluxe coil which I now run with a TTX Air, massively impressed with the air shock, but I do wonder about the TTX coil.. The bike was designed to run a coil so I’m sure it will be an eventuality, its just a question of whether to get the SD tuned, or go for the TTX. Be very interested to hear your thoughts. What bike are you on?
Cheers
