First ride in about 3 months tomorrow - family bereavement, buying a house, work, children, etc - and I know I'm going to find it tough as I'm well out of shape.

Be my brane. Should I...
(a) go over the top and take on a mega route in the hope that my next ride won't feel quite so bad.
(b) try the stuff just out of my back door - cheeky, unknown and potentially crap, potentially ok.
(c) play in the woods, plenty to do in there, steepish sided valley.
(d) familiar and doable route - maybe a little too familiar.

Roadtrip is out of the question as I promised the family lunch out!

If it was me C would be the way to go just get out and enjoy it. No need to kill your self first time out in ages do that a few times then add the miles on from there.
Enjoy your ride and family lunch to....
Bats.
