Hannah Mayho, who came into direct contact with the vehicle, has broken both her legs and her right arm and wrist. She is undergoing surgery today and will be kept in hospital as long as necessary.

Oh. F*ck.

Healing vibes to them.

Was the car being driven by someone from the UCI?

begs the question were they obeying the rule of the road these cyclist or is it as usual the cars fault

Typical responce from a car driver! But as the accident
happened in Belgium, it is the car drivers fault unless
he can prove otherwise.

I'm not signed up to Sky News otherwise I would have replied to that comment that it is usually the driver, not the car!

Update just released:

UPDATE ON BRITISH RIDERS INJURED IN BELGIUM

Hannah Mayho, who was seriously injured in a car collision yesterday while training in Belgium with four other British riders, is said to be making satisfactory progress following surgery at a hospital in Oudenaarde yesterday.

A second x-ray yesterday afternoon confirmed the 19 year-old from Bradford broke one and not two legs in the crash, as previously reported. Her left leg has been pinned in a successful procedure and she is expected to be on her feet later today.

Hannah’s broken right arm and wrist are in a plaster cast. She is likely to stay at the hospital for another week. Her parents and coach Simon Cope, who are with her, have reported she is feeling positive.

20 year-old Lucy Martin from Cheshire, who suffered a cracked vertebra, is resting at the Academy House under the supervision of the GB Cycling Team doctor. 20 year-old Katie Colclough from Lincolnshire, who suffered concussion, is expected to be discharged from hospital today.

20 year-old Emma Trott from Hertfordshire, who suffered a broken collarbone and a black eye, has been released from hospital, as has 18 year-old Sarah Reynolds who hurt her hand and cut her chin in the crash.

The five girls were injured at about 10:30 yesterday morning when a car pulled out of a junction.

Simon Cope, the Olympic Academy Programme Coach, said: “We are all feeling much more positive today. All the people here have been really great and have rallied around to help us.”

Also posted on MSN some very disappointing comments 🙁

I know, I've seen some of the stupid comments on several sites - some t0ssers seems to think they're uninsured cyclists and as such deserve to get hit. 🙁
Very sad indictment of just where we sit in the road users food chain...

Hannah's mum works with Sharon, James.

Glad to hear it's not as bad as first thought and she's recovering.

They were in collision with a car driven by a home carer nurse.....
Allegedly the driver pulled partially out of a T junction straight into the path of the girls who had no chance.
