[#12226248]

Need some help with routing on my garmin edge.

Got an impending month in a sling after shoulder surgery but planning in riding the Great North Trail Virtually.

I’ve got the full GPS route but a single course. I can use my edge 1030 plus Elite Trainer to simulate the course. Tis not perfect but good enough.

I’ve no idea how far i’ll ride each session but basically want to ride, stop then pick up again where i left off next day on the course.

I could split the route but as i say, no idea whether i’ll ride 20 or 200 mls.

Do you know if its just a case of turn off the computer and turn on again? Is what i want to do possible without a load of faff?

Just plug in a charger and hit pause everytime you stop and start when you set off again.

I'm gonna admit that I'm completely confused by what you are trying to achieve - and how.

Assuming you pair the Speed sensor of the Elite with the Edge, that'll give you "miles covered". But it won't move your position arrow along the Edge route as it has no idea of your position/direction and it won't count down the "distance remaining" for the same reason.

Is there some pairing of the Edge Explore and the Elite trainer I don't get?

As above. It sounds like you are trying to follow a GPS route without physically moving. I don’t think that is going to work.

Correct. I will be following a gps route without moving.

The garmin will simulate the route inside. From the indoor trainer you can select a course as a workout. It’ll move you along the route based on speed and distance and ignore gps.

The hills simulate based on garmin controlling the resistance. Basically poor mans zwift. That costs nothing as I have the computer already.

So, i dont want to ride a rhe whole lot. Just a bit each day but each day i want the route to pick up where i left off.

Not sure about that part as every time I’ve finished it stops everything. Next session becomes a new session so starting the navigation again back at the beginning.

Tis fine when i recreate a shorter route as i do it then job done. But 700ml+….thats more than a single ride!

Ah - I see what are doing. Yeah, I can't work out how your Edge would know you weren't at the start point each time. It would take two minutes to edit the course at the end of each day and then start from there the next day. That's the approach I would take (might take actually -  because you've inspired me to do something).

Will just have a play. Maybe i can pause the ride and switch off then switch it on again next day.

Wont get any stats in garmin connect till the rides finished but hey ho.

Tis only to keep the fitness going till i can on a bike proper again.

If you’ve not used it before the hills can be a little “digital” in feel as the resisitance moves in steps si dont stop zwift just yet! But as I’ve never bothered with zwift in the first place i think i can live with the imperfections and put the money to new bike stuff!

Presumably you could just load 200km or so onto it, ride until you're done, note where you get to, and then crop out the next 200km from that point and load it on?
