quick question,
when i charge my 810 via mains the unit switches on and shows the ride screen and charges, i would have thought it would just charge and not switch on, like a phone does
is that normal?
charging via pc it shows a battery percentage charging and computer on screen

Normal on my 810, just make sure to switch the unit off when you unplug or switch off mains. Annoying to find unit drained from being left on.
Is this using the same USB cable?
Many of the Garmins allow the use of external power sources (like a dynamo hub / external power pack) for extended trips.
This allows you to use an external power pack while riding, it would be pretty annoying if you plugged in an external power pack and it switched to PC mode (like it used to with the 705) 😕

cp thats wierd.. reason i ask is my mates 800 on mains just shows a little battery charging and doesnt switch on.
yes just the cable and charger that it came withh..just sems odd to switch on the the ride screen..
interesting - I'll look in the settings tonight and see if there's anything!
he can switch it on whilst charging via mains but it just charges until he tells what to do which i would say is the batter way again like a phone

Put it on charge, then once it's fired up, hold down the power button and it will just show charging icon
