Anyone use one for off road navigation? How do you find them for this purpose?

I use a 705, so similar product, not bad on known paths but if you stray off onto singletrack you are pretty much back to the old scale breadcrumb trail
I have one and use it successfully on and off road. They take a bit of getting used to, but the edge 810 a mate uses doesn't seem hugely better at navigation. Just make sure you plot your route accurately.
I suppose that depends on the map being used?
I want to be able to use gpx files in the lakes for routes like the borrowdale bash for example.
Following a route you've put into it works well. I've had mine for years and have rarely had a problem.
Edit - As Sammo says, make sure the route is plotted accurately. Any problems I've had have been due to using routes that had been drawn without any care.
