Have these been discontinued ? Broke my 205 at the weekend by closing the car boot on it and was looking to replace it but cant see any new ones, if so then surely the second hand ones should be a lot cheaper now ?

Worth contacting Garmin......they may do a refurb at a good price in exchange.

I sent my 305 for repair last week.
It cost £68 in advance, so I think it's a flat rate, and when it came back it looked brand new and had a different serial number.
So, if they replace rather than repair, there's a good chance the £68 would cover physical damage as well as internal faults. It's worth asking.

Graham,

It will indeed have been a different one - I sent my old one off for repair and for 68 quid got a refurbed model in its with a new and complete warranty.

Merlin were doing 305's with cadence for £120 a few weeks back...

or as above the £68 replacement service is pretty good.

you get 3 month warranty with latter and 1 year with former.

Hmmmm, the screen on my 205 is starting to fade, perhaps a £68 refurb is the way to go (the new unit only cost £50 though when PC World were selling them off cheap a couple of years ago).

as of yesterday mine wont turn on, was wondering what the options were but at £68 I don't think there will be many.

If it won't turn on fry resetting it - my 305 used to require this about once a month.

faint - there is a "bug" which causes the Garmin units not to turn on. Happened to me once, a quick google shows the necessary key presses to do a factory reset and hopefully it will work again.

A few key press options in that link

Not turning on was one of the problems with mine.
Holding down the Lap/Reset & Mode buttons at the same time would reset it. Try that before you spend £68.
One of the other problems with mine though, was that I couldn't press the Lap/Reset button with finger pressure, I had to virtually crush it with a pair of pliers.

thanks fellas, power and lap/rest button pushing seems to have sorted it.

Graham, I had the same problem, turned out to be an accumulation of dirt under the button. You can "pop" them off with a fine blade, just watch where the button flies off to.

+1 on the cleaning underneath the buttons, easy to do and makes the unit usable again 🙂
