[#1681657]

Have put two deposits down now from two different places for a 2010 orange 5 s, both times they told me after a few days they were out of stock and orange now only have 2011 models that will be available in four weeks, on top of that they will be around £200 more expensive! I know its a good bike but ~ £2200 for a bike with that spec isnt really doing it for me! £2000 was right on the top end of my budget and I can't really justify spending that much on a bike when I know I would be wanting to upgrade the components in the future, for £2200 it should have most of what I want from the off!

So (and bearing in mind I've had my bike stolen two weeks ago and am desperate to get out riding in the peaks again)...

1)does anyone suggest any alternatives? been looking at lapierre spicy 160 or zesty 140, but not really sure what else can match the 5?

2) know of anywhere that has any 5 S's in stock? (20")

ps 2nd hand not really an option, need 0% finance!

Any help or advice would be brilliant, I'm getting withdrawal symptoms - I NEED A BIKE!!!

I had seen a Orange 5 s Medium at Afan's shop this weekend in White.
Wouldnt bother with the Specalized Stumpy

One thing is the 2011 Orange 5 model frame will have the new head tube
and new thicker seat post and also comes with a chain device mount
so the frame will be better.

yeah I mean I've given it a bit of though, but the new price is making the orange 2011 nearly £500 more than a lapierre zesty or spicy, both of which have decent enough spec, I'm just wondering is an orange 5, even with new tapered headtube etc, £500 more bike than the lapierre or spesh stumpy?

Wouldnt bother with the Specalized Stumpy

How come? because I did have a look at one of those aswel!

Hi

Don't know if it helps but ordered my 5-s from allterraincycles they did not seem to have any problems with stock.

Good luck

I've got a 2010 Stumpjumper FSR Elite & love it.

When I was looking I considered the Stumpy, Orange 5, Zesty 314 & Trek EX8.

I thought the spec on the 5 was not great so discounted it & I was really struggling to find a Zesty demo bike so discounted that too.
In the end I demo'd the EX8 & the Stumpy FSR on the same day & I much preferred the Stumpy.

I got a 15% discount so got the Elite for just under £1900 but the Comp is pretty well specced.

zesty and spec stumpjumper both are great bikes. i'd consider a giant trance X as well if I were you.
all of those also have some sort of clever rear sus linkage which suggests to me they'll all be more efficient than an orange with its single pivot design from circa 1997, presumably delivered from the factory in a special DeLorean.
problem is you won't really get a decent spec on a zesty for 2000£.

Germinafantasy Why I wouldnt bother LOL my brain worked
un like the one on the Stumpy and just felt slow and the orange 5 frame
can take a lot more abuse
If you want a Specalized take a look at the Pitch

I had seen a silver Strange 5 being tested over Afan Sunday
updates look cool and worth while too.
