[Closed] Full length cable outers, frame with stops

[#3419634]

I'm building up my Trance and had full length outers on the Prince Albert. I'm reluctant to go back to sections as I wash the bike after every ride and imagine the water and mud to accelerate the decline of the cables.

Other than zip ties and getting over it has anyone found a clean looking solution?

Or am I just going to have to get sealed cables?

All sarcasm and advice gladly received 😉

Carefully drill/dremel out the stops so that the outers slide through. There are guides which fit onto the standard guides which work and will keep the frame 'standard' but they don't look as neat.

I too have stops in the cable lugs on my meta, I have ordered a set of goodridge cables dunno quite how it works as yet but Its supposed to be fully sealed by the time you finish the upgrade, prsumably there are two different guages of outer...

alternatively I thought about drilling the lugs straight through like on my 456.

Or these 🙂 as mentioned above - not neat but if you don't want to alter the frame 🙂

run a 5mm drill bit through the cable stop, dress the sharp edges with a little file or a dremel, squeeze the slit closed on the stop with a pair of pliers (making sure you can still thread the cable through..)

sounds brutal, but works a treat.

I wince at the idea of posting a "F*cked my frame up with a drill, cheap frame needed ASAP".

Reading a little more about Transfil mudlovers is selling them to me. I gather there is another lining tube that runs the whole length with shorter sections of normal outer. Kinda like a plastic coated cable. But then surely the cr@p can get in between the liner and housing 😕

I have drilled out guides before - rear cable brake to hydraulic and was fine - just got some paint to cover the bare metal - don't be scared to - just decide what's best for you before you hit the buy button 🙂

£3 from wiggle. Hmmmm, review are good too. I think it's the mud lovers kit without inner and outer (which is fine as I've got 'em).

I know, I know. I've just contradicted myself.

Drill the stops. How much damage can you do? I did this and I'm a ham-fisted baboon. The scratches soon blended into the other genuine battle damage 😆

You can also get a small round profile metal file and do it that way if your apprehensive of using a drill 🙂

I'm replacing my fork due to over trimming so I'm a little reluctant to get sharp tools near expensive aluminium!

Fitted the goodridge cable system to my meta at the weekend, rode in sludgey crap all day sunday and they are fantastic.
