My lad took a nasty tumble at GT a couple of months ago and, since then, has been pestering for full face helmet. Seems overkill to me for pootling around the Blue but his mates have them so fair enough. Are there any reasonably priced full face helmets around for 8 year olds that are sensibly light and ventilated? He will drop it and grow out of it so I would rather not pay a fortune, but I do accept that cheap = heavy in most cases.

I picked up a 661 comp for my 8 year old at CRC, fits well, it's light enough for him to wear comfortably. Thankfully he's not had a crash to test that aspect, but it seems a decent quality thing.

Seem to be all sold out at CRC now - see pllenty of kids wearing the 7IDP full face also though

My lad has a really small, xxs I think, 661 and it fits well and is really light. I paid about £25 from crc a couple of years ago.

Are people not concerned about the rotational forces that these things will put on a kids head if they crash?

FD +1.

That said, it's a judgement.

My judgement was open face makes them ride with more care, and i only have one with face scar, of rather that then bust neck.

My lad uses his for DH in Les Gets and Samoens. Normal riding he uses an open face helmet.
