1. I have a shimano xt fd m770 front mech that has only been used for one ride. It came off a 2005 bullit. will it fit a 2009 heckler (needs a 34.9mm) with or without some spacers?
2. what is the difference between long and short cage rear mechs - when/why would you use a long or short?

1 - Should do.
2 - Long cage for 3 chain rings at the front, short cage for single chain ring at the front

1. Must be a top swing, size ok
2. Long arm mechs accomodate more chain slack and bigger granny cogs
