Hi guys,

I'm probably going to purchase a frog 52 or 55 for my 6 year old son. I just wondered if there is scope to fit a larger plus style tire in the frame and fork at a later date?

There are already bikes like the specialized riprock and Scott scale with 2.6 and 2.8 tyres and thought it might be interesting to try it out when I get him on the bumpier terrain.

Cheers

you could get a 2.1 in but from memory I think you'd struggle with one much bigger than that. I can take a look when I get home. The wheels are still only 20" so they'll get stopped or beaten up by moderately lumpy stuff anyway, plus the rims might not take a very wide tyre. My 6yo son's Frog 52 has 1.5 schwalbes on and they're fine on the kind of thing he's happy and capableย  riding on - gravel, muddy paths and so on... YMMV

Ok, you could probably get a 2.2 in the back and 2.4 in the fork

Why not get a Scott with plus tyres? My son went from a 16" Frog to a scale 20" plus and it was a great bike.

I fitted these Schwalbe Black Jacks in 1.9" to my lads Frog 20" bike, more than enough grip considering what you can actually ride as a munchkin on a 20" bike in general.

It's worth bearing in mind that kiddy sized plus bikes are heavier and the tyres can be overly draggy, what's good for the gnar shredding Paa, isn't necessarily good for the off-spring.

My mate bout his daughter (6) one of those Specialized plus bikes, and it weighs a bloody ton compared to my lads frog.
