[#4457458]

My Titus FTM is a few months old. I've just noticed the shock is rubbing on the frame at the shock mounting.

Is this normal, or should I be contacting On-One?

It seems to be the air valve that is rubbing the frame.

I'd send that back. Can the shock be turned round?

I take it you've checked with the other end of the shock unbolted that it does actually contact the frame? It looks far enough away not to rub regardless of whether it rotates slightly under compression?

Never had any problems on mine, but I might not have been looking that close.

Op, I'm really sorry to see that. Dear me, you'd think that these bikes would be tested for this kind of stuff! Seems like an epic fail to me!

What costs less? Upgrade people to RP23s or give them new frames?

So did they give you a new frame and different shock or use the old shock and just turn it around?

This is a fundamental issue with regards to the incompatibility between the frame and the shock. If they sell it in that format, regardless of age or how many owners, it's a warranty claim.

SOGA states the 2nd hand goods have exactly the same status as 1st hand, however you can expect the condition of goods to be lower.

Surely that means a shop selling something 2nd hand. eg a 2nd hand car from a car dealer.

You don't have any contract with On One at all

Yup, you'd have to take that up with whoever you bought it off, who are unlikely to be bound by SOGA
Goodwill from on-one is all 2nd hand buyers can hope for, or just ignore it till it's worn enough away not to touch any more

Sounds like great customer service from On-One, will consider buying from them in the future now.

It's nice to hear about good customer service for a change rather than people moaning about poor service on forums before they've even contacted the company about the problem. 😉

Latest update - apparently the email telling me my frame was in the post was an Auto- response, and not actually true.

However, On-One customer services have been in contact, swapped a new front triangle onto my bike, with the shock reversed. After checking I was happy with this, they are couriering it to me, to arrive Monday.

All in all, good service from On-One. I get the impression they are very busy, but all the people I have dealt with have been spot on.

As an aside, when I stripped this frame for return, I found pretty severe cable rub around the internal cable routing exits. Having only had the bike 2 months, and ridden less than 100 miles, I was quite shocked!! I will be heli taping the new one to within an inch of its life - especially around the cable exits.

I'll have to check the cable exits I think...

Took my shock off and sent photo's through to On-one, the rub isn't too bad on mine. No paint left in that area, but it hasn't eaten any of the carbon layers as far as I can tell.

No reply from on-one from my question about some touch-up paint, though!

Conan - seems like turning your shock around may fix it then. Maybe a bit of epoxy resin in the paint chip, just to stop it spreading?

From my previous experience of touch-up paint, it will never match perfectly.

Not knocking on one but this looks like a failure as in lots of stuff designed on paper/computer using spec sheets then sent off to be fabricated ( possibly in far east)comes back , looks good but untested and banged out into market place for the consumer to find the faults. As bikers we imagine that the bloody things are developed by beardy blokes in a workshop doing lots of testing and riding out every day trying their latest tweaks but thats just not the case any more.Yet all the advertising blurb tells us otherwise. Rant over , time for work!!

Or in reality Onone bought loads of frames without shocks, should be an rp23 but they used a monarch. Monarch is slightly different profile

^^^That^^^

Switching the Monarch round seems a sensible compromise.

For the money, it is still a great frame!!

Already turned the shock around, gave me the chance to do a quick service on the bushings etc. Seems to have made no difference to the bike but has moved the valve away from the frame.

I imagine On-one have a good deal on Monarch shocks, allows them to hit the price point they're after whereas RP23's would have been £100 or so higher...

Anyone know what length and tune RP23 it should have out of interest?
