[#11352787]

Need some whispers in my ear. The question is do I sell a few frames and buy a used Aeris 29 (year old).
I have a M and L Stump jumper 6fattie fsr and a Nicolai Argon 29er frame. I also ride a scandal 29er and a DMR Sled.

Opinions would be welcome.

You have 6 bikes, and want to know if you should sell some and buy an aeris? I think we need more info on what you might hope to achieve from the change. What do you not like about your current bikes, and what do you think the aeris offers?

I'm sure they're great bikes, but like every bike, they're not for everyone or everything

I had a clear out recently and bought a couple of new(ish) frames for me and the wife. I think I was mostly keeping the old ones for nostalgia. I was really never going to ride them again. Don't miss them, happy with the new ones. Even came out a few quid ahead.

AM9s go like stink. Get one.

But given you have a Sled, maybe build the AM9 light-ish for trail. Or get rid of the Sled too and build the AM9 for enduro?

One of the great things about the AM9 is that it can succeed both as an aggressive trail bike and also as a full on enduro racer, depending on how you build it

Clear out the dead wood and get it.

You'll feel like a new man (or woman).

Could swap the parts over from the fattie.

AM9s are on the low side of normal to begin with, I'd advise against trying 650plus wheels in it.

What’s the difference?

If I were building an AM9 up as a trail bike I’d go pikes/ air shock/ a wheelset with say XM481 rims / Maxxis Exo tyres / sram G2 rsc brakes etc.

If to race Enduro I’d go lyriks/ coil shock / ex511 rims / maybe exo front but exo+ or DD rear tyre / Sram Code brakes etc.

Probably make quite a difference in weight and feel of the bike. One would feel a bit poppier and quick to respond on the trail, the other would be more point and shoot and steamroller downhills.

As @joebristol pointed out, quite a bit of difference.
Trail- 150mm fork (maybe Pikes), Exo tyres, air shock, lighter rims

Enduro- 170mm fork (Lyriks, Zeb, whatever) coil shock, DD or equivalent tyres, inserts, hd rims etc

I've had AM9s in both configurations, very different behaviours

Well I pulled the trigger on a raw used frame. Now I’m going to be selling a Nicolai Argom AM med frame as well as almost new stump jumper fsr 6fattie Large frame and a used medium frame. Feeling excited.
