[Closed] Frame bearings - Loctite or grease?

Just changing the main pivot bearings on my Whyte. Non drive side needed a bearing press to remove and install the new one. Drive side pushed out with my thumb. Can push the new one in by hand with a bit of force. There's no damage or corrosion on the frame.

Should I just use grease or loctite 641 on the one I can install by hand?

I wouldn’t use grease, you don’t want to make it even easier to move. I’d be going down the bearing retainer route, but 638, just because that what I’m used to using

If the outer has been greased and the bearing seizes, it will rotate about the pivot and more likely to fret and damage the bearing seat in the frame.

So loctite on both or loctite on the lose one and nothing on the other?

I'd loctite both.

Worth checking the bearing bore of the loose side, check if its ovalised or whethers it was just oversized from the factory

You can get specific loctite/similar for retaining bearings- I used loctite 641 on an old frame once the headset got a little loose and it did the job perfectly. Mind you maybe normal bolt loctite would have been fine too

Loctite 609 I think is the stuff you want for that kind of bearing. 683 iirc for shafts and the like.
