Is there any such thing as a mini service for a fox transfer seatpost - clean and relube type thing. Or is it a full strip down involving lots of bits pinging around the garage?
Afaik a service requires tools that Fox will not sell to the public, could be wrong tho but I don't know anyone who has tried it themselves
I’ve just done my Race Face Turbine R, which is the same post with a different seat clamp
I got as far as step 9 but didn’t have the threaded rod so couldn’t get the wiper seal and bushing out
But I did clean a load of crud out and put a few ml of oil in that bottom part, which lubricates the grooves the keys slide along
It’s much better now, whereas before it was reluctant to return
You can do the 'mini' service yourself without special tools but you will need a whole new seal kit as you have to replace the wiper and upper IGUS bush. At Step 8 where you remove the retainer lug from shaft-
-clamp the post in a vice
-you need a plastic tube which fits over threaded section of the shaft-end but contacts the flat end
-keep on tapping gently against the tube/shaft and gradually the you will see the wiper seal start to unseat and then become free followed by the upper IGUS bush (which will break up in the process)
- at this point sliding shaft is free to remove and you can then skip the steps until it comes to step at which the sliding shaft is re-inserted - you can push the wiper seal back in by hand
