Do any of these changes apply to the 36 as well?

Yep, looks like the 2021 36 is getting redesigned lowers, the bleed ports, vvc on the compression circuit, and the floating axle.

Oooh, dam.

Just when I thought I owned the best forks money can buy, they go and make a better version.

This is how the world will end, we will be fooled by marketing to keep the ecomony growing and die from climate change as a result.

Or, I could buy them, fool myself that they make me a better rider and die from old age before I die form climate change.

Actually yeah, that's got a nice '70s vibe.

Now where did I leave that £1,300?

I like the arch, it's grown on me.  In that I have fallen for the marketing.

Ironically we will see the 2022 version when the EWS kicks off again.

Finally somebody thought to put bleed valves in. No more messing about with zip ties to get rid of excess pressure in the lowers. I dare say they weren’t the first, but all forks should have then I’m my opinion.

Can anyone explain how the excess air get in, in the first place. How if it squeezes past the seals can it not squeeze back out then ?

My ribbon coils have the air bleed ports. Apparently its more for equilization after flying with the bike.

the 29er is 400g heavier than the mezzer for not much difference in stiffness. The 35mm lyric is only about 8% less stiff torsionally than the 38mm fox.

Surprised they haven't moved to twin positive chambers.

The video and text on the front page explain it's due to changes in atmospheric pressure - if you take your bike from the bottom of the valley to the top of a high mountain the air pressure outside the fork is lower than inside. Effectively the inside of the fork is pressurised.

Effectively the inside of the fork is pressurised.

Surely then your fork would be under-sprung by the end of the run?

I thought they used to be because the damping oil had a tendency to evaporate as it got warm increasing the pressure.

It's not the air spring that your equalising = - just the unpressurised parts of the fork. I *think* the impact of these being slight above outside pressure is to make the dust seals tight and stiction high.

Indeed, ordered a set with a frame in Jan that hasn’t arrived yet. Ah well, they’re still great forks.

Would you guys really want this fork on a 130mm or 140mm travel trail bike?

Not the 38, but the 36 which has the same internals IIRC

Tom, did I see on an earlier thread that you bought a Deviate Highlander. I'm waiting on a blue medium right now. Had a test with Ben and was totally blown away by the bike. Found a set of 150mm Ribbon Coils for £705 from crc. By far the best fork I've ever owned.

And talk to your supplier Tom, I'm sure your order could be amended.

No, I wish I could as it does my head in. Every fork I've owned (Fox and Rockshox) has got progressively stiffer over time, until I release the trapped air. I've done numerous seal changes, tried varying grease levels (from thin film to slather it on) and they all seem to do it. Maybe it's something to do with the Scottish air. But it seems such an obvious thing to do, to put a little valve on the back that you can press to remove any excess pressure in the lowers.

Am doing now, it was due for delivery in a couple of weeks, so might have already been ordered in.

@mactheknife, yeah a highlander. Same for me, but I already had a hunch I would from the Guide.

Nice one, I tried the guide but just couldn't get on with the grip shift.

Enjoy.

Neither could I, swapped the cinq triggers 😊

Apologies for the derailment, but deviate are very good eggs, they’ve change the order to 2021 forks and shocks 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 Have to wait a bit longer, but that’s not exactly the end of the world...

Back on topic, Looks like the 36, 38 and 40 are now able to take (and are presumably warrantied for) 230mm brake rotors, IIRC previous gens have only been 203mm.

I agree a 150mm fox 38 would be a bit overkill on a 130mm rear travel bike, but hey the colours match!!

The article mentions a new 1.8 headset standard - that this fork does not use. I have not heard of this before...? Have I been under a rock - or is this news to many people...?

is this news to many people…?

I was vaguely aware that Suntour were talking about it at a couple of shows a year or 2 ago, but not heard anything for a while. Mainly for ebikes i think.

edit, thanks to google

The disti may have a fair few unsold 2020 ones that tarts like me no longer want, give it a few weeks and prices for 2020 ones should drop a bit, or someone will have a clearance sale.

I was half joking, have only read vague hints about such a thing on the internet.

Do go on though...

So as far as I can see, 2021 36 only goes up to 160mm. If you want above that it is 38 only. Creaky CSU remedy?
