Any tips for getting the snap ring back in?
Some small internal snap ring pliers?
can get cheap circlip pliers (and aso ones with interchangeable heads) - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-5-Internal-Bent-Needle-Tip-Nose-Circlip-Snap-Ring-Plier-Cutter-Tool-WS-/262407664946?hash=item3d18b73532:g:xZQAAOSw~oFXIB~u
now bodges
could maybe bodge with a pair of thin nosed scissors
does a wire coathanger(or other stiff wire - washing line peg wire etc) fit the holes, if so cut a length, bend into a v and try that
can you get one bit in and then use a small screwdriver to bend the other end in over the lip
Bodging circlips is a hell of a job tbh, unless you own a welder or are willing to grind down some tools. Get yourself some circlip pliars, you'll not use them often but every time you do you'll say a little prayer of thanks to Isis-socket, goddess of infrequently used tools.
Check the channel for damage too, mind- it's supposed to pop out to protect the parts but that's still no guarantee it won't have hurt the lever body.
Thanks. I've had a go with the straight needle nosed pliers (similar to those in the image below) but I couldn't for the life of me get it done. The pliers would splay apart. Or the ring won't sit anywhere near the groove.
I'm thinking the bent nose ones might be better. The snap ring is really quite stiff. It strikes me that it's quite a knack to get this sorted.
