My Cotic BFe is running 100mm 1.5" RST deuce forks (last original item from my 2012 cannondale) i have permission(from wife ) to replace as they are pitted and worn out . i do not know where to start . Do i need 1.5" steerer or if i replace headset can i run any fork ? I want to do the frame justice with a longer travel but more importantly a better fork . i was thinking 140mm to 160 mm not sure what brand ? Fit and forget 100 miles a month max, maybe less .i am not too bright can i be pointed in the right direction ?
You will be looking at a tapered fork something like a Rockshox Revelation 140mm.
Not sure about the head tube although I could see a 44mm ID tube working with EC44 cups to fit a 1.5" steerer although you'd find life easier fitting a smaller top cup to mount a tapered fork. Cotic have all this sort of thing on their website.
Fork choice, if you want low maintenance you probably don't want Fox unless you like living dangerously. Ignoring service too long tends to get expensive. Rockshox are solid with much longer intervals, and XFusion are getting good words from many. Depends how much you want to spend and where you put weight in the mix. Lyriks are pretty solid and come in the size range you mention. Sektors would be a cheap option, Revelations better, Pikes if money is no object (they are really good though) . Be aware that pretty much any of the above are going to give you a 15 or 20mm axle, so you may need to budget a hub or new wheel also unless you have something there with a suitable hub already or you can fit adaptors.
