More interesting though is the drivetrain. Anyone got any ideas how a hydraulic drive would work?

Not too sure about on a bike, but saw a hydraulic drive by a company called Timberjack on one of their logging trucks being used in truck trials, 6WD and hydraulically articulated, absolutely awesome and with no driveshafts, superb ground clearance.
