I've had a Salsa Vaya framset boxed for a while and haven't had the heart to sell it. I was thinking of building it up with flat bars.
Has anyone done this before with success or can think of reason why it's a bad idea to flat bar a bike designed for drops?

Drop-bar geometry should normally have shorter top tube.
You can build flat, for sure.. but may want longer stem.
It's not going to cost that much to find out, sounds good. 🙂
Alternatively, set of wide, flared drops with a slightly higher stem?
Loads of alternative flat bars out there, long/ Ergo bar ends would help.
Personally the lack of positions available on standard flats drives me nuts after a long day.
Just put flat bars on my dirty disco. Riding it to work tomorrow so ill see how good or bad it is. The tt is 22 inch so its not so far away from a mtb length wise
3cm used to be the TT difference.
They're pure fanboi-fodder, sell it and buy a decent hybrid 🙂
So i rode to work on the flat barred dirty disco today. Wish I'd done it earlier. Suits me better. Hydraulic not bb7 brakes is better too. Maybe needs a longer stem but ill see how i get on
Salsa say on their website that they don't recommend it as it's too short.
Too short or too long we are all different shapes and sizes, nothing wrong with giving it a go if you wish.
