with a gorgeous day like today I had to get out (in spite of a stinking cold). Lovely trails in the suburbs of Sheffield. Trundling along a wide, flat path, we overtook a walker and called out a cheery hello and happy new year. He waited 'til we were 10yds past before the inevitable 'i don't think you're meant to be riding in here was yelled.'
We waited at the next bridleway sign for a chat, and funnily enough he chose to turn round and go back.
Later on though, we were riding cheeky trails and fully expecting a telling off - but every single person we met was lovely. One particular couple got us into a debate about how silly bikes not being allowed on paths is too!
Cracking ride, and a great opener for 2012.
Woop. All really friendly walkers in Macc forest too.
Wasn't exactly friendly on middle moor today.
h4muf - do tell...
Loads of people in Vicky Park and along the River Lea. Most were cheerful.
Unfortunate out of control dog incident though; a boxer off the lead grabbed and burst some lads' football on Hackney Marshes. The stupid cah of an owner simply took the ball off the dog (once she'd managed to get it to come back to her), handed it to the lads and just said 'sorry'. No offer to pay for the damage her out of control dog had caused though. Not fit to own a dog.
Just plently of ignorant walkers about,Said a cheery "morning" to most of them but got snubbed mostly ๐
Loads of nice walkers at Gisburn today and we were in a big group every body was nice.
Beautiful day for the first ride of 2012 - blue skies and sunshine ๐ Lots of happy walkers (all saying thanks for my bell-usage!) and horseriders.
But, got a puncture - no biggie (had inner tube, pump etc), apart from not being able to get the bloody thorn out of my tyre. Stopped at the side of the road in a layby, getting colder and colder as the sun disappeared, obviously trying to deal with a mechanical problem (wheel off / bike upside down) and no-one stopped to ask if I needed a hand. Not even a guy who pulled into the same layby in a van, got out made a call, looked at me and drove off!
Personally, if I saw a cyclist stuck at the side of the road, especially on a cold winter's day, I would at least ask if they needed any help.
Anyway - ended well with my feet up in the pub beside a warming fire ๐
where pook ?
Some clown on my xmas eve ride was determined to wind me up. I approached and pinged my bell at about 20 yards behind, his companions both moved to one side, get closer to him and said twice "excuse me" very politely, still refused to move for me and he eventually said "im fine thanks"(eh??), trail widened and rode past him whilst cheerily wishing him a "lovely christmas". Some people are miserable arses whatever happens.
Snaps that is brill, what a great idea having a sign saying you 'can' rather than cannot.
Is that footpath the one that takes you on the clunker classic, Porlock Hill?
