That was, erm, impressive.

Someone on Twitter asked what his average speed was. In all seriousness - was asking for "one of the stats guys" to provide the info.

They really do walk among us. 🙄

But yes, that was a phenomenal ride. CyclingTips had an article about how the weather will have helped, was a very low pressure system around at the time.

Just the 470W average for an hour! Dr.Hutch said the air pressure was slightly higher at the time of the event so being at 450m above sea level helped.

I’m really glad I watched that. History in the making to unify the record, the man’s a monster. I’ve a feeling it’s going to be some time before that record is broken.

I’m rather surprised Boardman hasn’t posted a magnanimous comment, I do hope he isn’t bitter.

Is it just me that ALWAYS hears his name as Philip O'Ganna?

I think I heard him in the post-ride interview speculating that he could have gone faster if he'd done it earlier in the season and had fresher legs.

I can only conclude that he wishes not only to destroy the hour record, but time itself.

Just the 470W average for an hour

Im a relatively fit cyclist who rides tt’s. I’m not particularly good but I’m not awful either (22 min ten last year on a sporting course)

For context, 470 watts is my one min power on my tt bike😳😬

I agree he must have some time to go. Brigham did 380w for the hour - more than 100w less, and whilst ganna smashed him - there have to be some gains there to be achieved?

He’s bloody massive though isn’t he. I also don’t believe he’s not been optimised to the max already when it comes to aero gains (position, bike and kit)

I’m assuming they’ve already worked out the ideal balance between power and aero, and any attempt to improve the latter will negatively influence the watts he puts out

Be interested to see how evenepoel does if he attempts it given he’s a half way house between Bingham and ganna when it comes to watts and cda

On similar topic, GCN recently did a video comparing the lotus bike to a ribble aero road bike on a road tt. The road bike was as fast

I appreciate boardman was in the Superman position when he set his record (although apparently it wasn’t nearly as advantageous a position as the uci made out according to modern day testing), but it also just goes to show the bike he was on was not up to much compared to today’s standards yet he still rode over 56km😳
