All the big companies jumped off that bandwagon a couple of seasons ago. See Slam69 for a great frame/bike though

Try Iron horse cycles in Darlington.
They had a Salsa Beargrease and a Surly Wednesday a few weeks back. Think they were both large, but not 100% sure

But don't understimate the availability problems/cost of getting all the compatible parts

Proppa bike shop, are you collecting it? it's like a mini retro museum in there.

The fad ended.

They are a niche product that has it place but I think the novelty wore off

My son has just done a Kona Wo build for a bit of fun. I know he is enjoying playing with it.

IMm guessing people stopped buying them when they realised they dinky live in a large flat country that’s covered in snow.

Joking aside I think that most people nowadays would just get a 29er and run 2.8 tyres on them for fat(tish) duties and slimmer tyres for the other 99.999999999999999999999999% of the time when they’re not riding in Alaska.

And if they’re not selling them then they’re not going to stock them.

@zerocool As the owner of several fatbikes, I agree with you.

If there's any sort of surface a 29er with 3" tyres will handle most of it.

However when you like to go in places with no trails inevitably there are soft surfaces and then there's no substitute a nice big fat tyre.

The trouble with fatbikes is the bandwagon got jumped on and there's lots of them designed for trailbike type use rather than middle of nowhere use, and you may as well have a 29er instead.

My opinion is that the early fatbikes are best for true off piste use. The ultimate Rough Stuff bike.

My comment, was slightly tongue in cheek in how I wrote it, but I sort of meant what I said. I agree that the early ones looked like proper exploration bikes, and then everyone saw (insert sponsored/pro rider) jibbing and bought one.

It was the same with klunkers after a Transition released the video of Lars van Sternberg thrashing one of those down hud local trails and around Whistler. And where have they all gone?

I'm going to respectfully disagree. My Nutrail is every bit as capable an "expedition bike" as my 9zero7 but also behaves like a proper MTB when I want it to.

I have no idea if my fatbike ( salsa beargrease) is an expedition bike or trail bike - but given my propensity for riding unsuitable bikes is nearly as big as epicyclos I guess both - certainly it coped well as a trail bike this morning and certanly it rides fine with 20lb of bikepacking gear on it

Just had a look at the Ison website, not a single fatbike frame or full bike listed 😕
Hopefully temporary, the world needs more ice cream trucks.
If you are still looking Ton, might be worth a wanted ad on the FB fatbike selling page. Plenty of barely used fatties out there I'd imagine.

The main thing is FUN of course!

Mine is ambidextrous: Bikepacking with dropper, rack and OG bars or trail riding (inc alps downhill one year) with a short stem and Stooge Moto bars. 2 sets of tubeless wheels, 4.4 Jims or 3" Knards, plus choice of rigid or 120mm suss fork. Just mix and match for whatever task.

I have a newer slightly longer slightly slacker slighty lower 2.6" 29er FS which is usurped for everything except uplifts.

For trail riding you really have to throw the thing about underneath you to get anywhere, hence wide bars. Once moving it's like a steamroller, hilarious.

Both people who have ridden mine then bought their own, second chap only this week, got lucky with a barely used Nutrail for sale 100 miles away and snapped it up.

I had a Pugsley for a while and very much echo the below sentiment:

For trail riding you really have to throw the thing about underneath you to get anywhere, hence wide bars. Once moving it’s like a steamroller, hilarious.

However, I wouldn't have one now as an 'only' MTB - being down south we rarely get the kind of conditions to really warrant one, as fun as they are, and it's a lot (financially and literally) to have hanging around the garage for the few times a year it really shines.

Saying that though, on the right rides it was phenomenal fun, just don't go out planning a 'fast loop'...

They were all melted down to make pizza ovens.

Brutal, but not inaccurate!

On another similar subject .. Don't suppose you still have that big brother frame you bought used a few years ago Ton? (iirc) I'm looking for one. I did reply to your thread on bearbones also.
I've just refurb an XL Pugsley ...did have 2 but I sold one and probably keeping the other unless my knee issues related to the Q factor continue. I'll keep my eye open and let you know if anything comes up Ton or I decide to sell. I can imagine an XL Surly ice cream truck/Pugsley /moonlander or Sim lar expedition type fattie would be perfect for you and actually be in scale for your stature. Cheers
Bill

Give the shop a call directly... Graham has all but retired, his Grandaughter runs it now and Graham's out riding his bike most days these days. 👍🏻

But they're definitely the best port of call for getting kitted out with a FatBike right now given it's gone back underground again by all accounts.
