getting sick of pinching my rear high roller even when run firm and tubeless with plenty of sealant. what options are there? cheers people.
how do you pinch a tubeless tyre exactly?
LOL.
you squash the tyre between the rim and the ground and put a hole in it ๐
what al said, bash it on to the rim and split it. its a pain in the arse!
it's only the noobs that believe the hype that it's impossible.
surely a tubeless tyre would burp way before that
sideways loads cause burping i thought?
Maybe try a a thicker tube.
A light dual ply will be a flimsy one i suppose.
Dual ply maxxis and DH tubes survived a run at Fort William with 18 psi today. Rim isn't so happy but never mind.
Still loving that blur 4x cheers.
you're talking about using a tube when he wants to run tubeless? surely defeating the point?!
just worth checking, are you using proper LUST high rollers or ghetto tubeless?
lust highrollers are shite, very thin sidewalls. I ruined a brand new one at 30 psi and it split so badly that it's not repairable ๐
Another lad I ride with has pinch flatted a lust about four times now just through normal riding.
If you want to run tubeless at low pressure while riding hard then the bontrager ARC tyres I've used proved to have very strong sidewalls. Or a Maxxis DP tubeless and accept the weight penalty
I'm running a Racing Ralph UST on the back - stunning tyre, bags of grip even on slate
i've been running maxxis LUST tyres all year with no problems, regardless of riding.
I have found LUST HR tyres to be pinch resistant but also single ply HR done ghetto stylee. I wonder what rims people who pinch them are running. I always run mine at 35-40psi and feel the occasional rim dink, particularly on the ghetto system but no flats yet. 823s UST and 321s ghetto. I'm 17st and clumsy.
Stu - you really need to let go of them brakes and stop mincing around those rocks :P. I know I'm er.. heavier ๐ณ but I still pinch occasionally at Ft Bill with 40psi in the rear tyre. I take it running 18psi was a mistake?
DH tubes in a single ply won't help, if weight's a concern, XC tubes in a Dual ply will be a far better bet (and not a lot heavier)
oh.. and if it's for pure DH (but not racing) double bagging DH tubes or using extra thick MX tubes in a dual ply saves a lot of worrying about lines/flats ๐
its a standard single ply kevlar 2.35 60a using stans flow rims, rimstrips and sealant. sensible pressures too. its definite pinch flats too; always on rocky stuff, nice gash in the tyre tread to prove it.
ive switched to a wtb prowler mx for now, just because its what i had in the shed so ill see if thats any better. if not ill probably go for a dual ply high roller, just wondered if that might be overkill for general trail riding and if there were tougher single ply or lightish dual ply options.
did you do the red or black run stuart? never did get that bike up to the fort, wish i had though!
it might be overkill, but there's very little middle ground.
good luck looking for something that fits the bill.. I know spesh do their chunders (pretty much a HR copy - but betterer) in a lighter 1.5 ply version but they come up big as a maxxis 2.5 and the one's I've seen are 45/50a so will drag pretty badly for generla riding.
i tried a single ply kevlar 60A highroller and it was suitably rubbish. used to burp really easily. get a proper LUST high roller and you'll be sweet
Never got spc and tubeless to work for the same reason. Try a DPC minion front on the rear for a fast rolling tyre. I find a high roller a bit of a drag.
Are Maxxis UST or LUST tyres any less likely to get pinched? Slighty thicker sidewalls? A mate likes the UST high rollers but found the LUST very fragile.
Did not have room for the 4x in the car. Was out on it today though.
GW, i'll always be a mincer. Remember what happened when i tried hucking? 18 psi was user error, big ding through the 729 just like you said would happen. 721 next time.
true, true! ๐ณ but @18psi you'd a dinged a 721 too. ๐ got a nice wee ding in my rear 721 that must've happened at 40psi from that awful place 8O.
a mate who's raced (expert)DH on UST since the D3.1 was released advised me to avoid both UST and LUST maxxis for me for DH, he found sidewalls ripped around the bead too easily (that's where the butyl insert is on standard 2plys), I use 3C 2Ply tubeless on my 823, they're the heaviest Maxxis DH minions available by quite a bit but prob worth it IMO. but I hate punctures and couldn't care about times ๐
